Step 2: Notify Your Supervisor

Once you have decided to retire, you should inform your supervisor of your upcoming retirement date, in writing. Note that your retirement date is always the first of the month after your last day of employment. So, if your last day is 5/25, your retirement date is 06/01.

Step 3: Make Sure Your Address Is Correct In ESS

You will receive a Separation letter and a letter outlining when your insurance coverages will end. It will be mailed to the address we currently have on file, so be sure that your ESS account is up to date! You will also have access to your paystubs and your W2 information through ESS even after you are no longer employed. If you are ever locked out or need assistance, you can email benefits@clarke.k12.ga.us or payroll@clarke.k12.ga.us.

Step 4: Understand How State Health Premium Payments Work

You may continue health coverage after retirement if you are currently enrolled in the State Health Benefit Plan. The cost of the cover depends on your years of service. Your premium will be deducted from your retirement check unless you select to be directly billed. Check out the resources below for more information on State Health options in retirement.

Step 5: Set Up Clarke Flexible Benefits For Retirement

As a retiree from CCSD, you are eligible to continue the dental and/or vision benefits you have as an active employee. Retirees will not have an Open Enrollment, so the election you make at retirement will remain the same unless you cancel your plan(s). Keep in mind that you may receive further information from Workterra should you elect to continue your coverage, so please be on the lookout for that. Take a look at the resources below for more information.

Step 6: Consider Other Benefits

Many retirees inquire about continuing life insurance through CCSD, but it is not a cost-effective option and rarely makes sense. If you still need life insurance coverage, it is best to research other options. The same goes for Critical Illness coverage.

Step 8: Review COBRA Notification

Please note that all employees receive COBRA paperwork automatically upon plan termination. This sometimes causes confusion. COBRA is offered to continue your health insurance and avoid a lapse in coverage. If you have set up health insurance through the retirement process, you can disregard these notices. Please be sure to carefully read over any documents you receive!

WE APPRECIATE YOU!

We know that the path to retirement, while exciting, can also be nerve-wracking at times. Please be sure to utilize the tools provided here to help you feel better prepared.  If you have any additional questions, please reach out to benefits@clarke.k12.ga.us or call us at 706-546-7721
